To many teachers and community members Sylus is the obvious choice for this distinction because he gives 110% of himself in all that he does at EVHS. From being the mascot, to running Devil News, to volunteering to help with Girls Volleyball and Basketball, his footprints are everywhere. "[He is] an incredible person and personality to have on campus.” Athletic Director, John Yount, also describes Selberg saying that, “There might not be a single person on EVHS campus who has more insight.”

What many may not know is that Selberg got an early start in his service to our community, helping his father while he coached his East Valley Youth Baseball team. Even at the age of four, he impressed us with his work ethic and tenacity.

Now, Sylus is in the second year of his term, serving our School Board of Directors as a Student Representative. In this role, he ensures that our Board of Directors and District administrators are informed of student affairs at East Valley High School and then reports back to his student body.

In the classroom, Sylus impresses teachers with his, “quick wit,” and kind nature. When things are tough, he never gives up. His persistence and perseverance allow him to be successful in all that he attempts.

The impact that Sylus has had on our campus and District is one that will long outlast his time with us as a student. When Lisa Rossow asked a sixth grade student at East Valley Central about what they do in their IGNITE program, one student responded, “We’re like Sylus, but at our school.”  He will surely be missed when he graduates this spring.

We thank Sylus for his dedication to our schools, his fellow student body and for proving once again, that East Valley truly does have the best students around!
